Obama Touts P-TECH as an Example of Innovation in State of the Union Address

Obama pointed to Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) as an example of a school successfully preparing its students for the future.

In his 2013 State of the Union address, President Obama dedicated time to talking about education. “So let’s do what works, and make sure none of our children start the race of life already behind,” he said. “Let’s give our kids that chance.”

We know we’re giving students that chance every time we partner on a new Fast Track early college high school. Fast Track schools are changing what it means to be a college student. These schools support students least likely to attend college, simply because of their circumstances, and put them into an atmosphere with high levels of support and expectations.

Obama pointed to Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) as an example of a school successfully preparing its students for the future. We’re proud to be joining IBM, SUNY and CUNY in their work with P-TECH and it’s great to see hard work recognized. “At schools like P-Tech in Brooklyn … students will graduate with a high school diploma and an associate degree in computers or engineering. We need to give every American student opportunities like this,” Obama said.

We couldn’t agree more.
